Rare Silk is an irregular soirée hosted by Fremantle’s Culture Club at the eponymous Reuben’s Room.
This first edition brings together new poetry by established Walyalup based poet Jennifer Kornberger and Cellist Kevin Gillam.
About
The rarest silk is woven from the fiber of the sea. In the Mediterranean, a fan shaped clam, sways upright in the water’s current.
Held steadfast by noble threads, emanating from its base. These threads may only be harvested by a traditional master, sworn to the oath of the sea; granted permission to use a piece of its soul. Sea silk pays homage to the ocean, a call of respect for the places we move through, urging us to listen to their wisdom.
It denotes the mythical; the (an ode to the) unknown, likened to the Golden Fleece, or the magic of mermaids. Rare Silk is an offering, for those who are ready to explore.
